Getting started
On first launch you choose a display name and set up unlocking. That is the whole setup: no registration, no phone number, no email. In the background your device creates your key pair in its secure hardware.

How to reach us, and answers to the questions that come up most often.
Write to us any time through the contact form on saqura.de. A person reads every message — there is no ticket robot in between.

SaQura is an end-to-end encrypted messenger for phones and tablets. Messages, calls, photos and files are encrypted on your device with quantum-safe cryptography — our servers only pass along sealed data they cannot read. There is no account, no phone number and no email address: your identity is a key that is created inside your device and stays there. Private and business conversations live in one app but are kept cryptographically separate.
The iPhone and iPad app comes first; the Android version follows.
SaQura deliberately has no cloud backup. Your messages are stored encrypted on your device and nowhere else — we hold no copy and cannot restore one for you. If the device is lost, reset or replaced and no backup with its recovery phrase exists, those messages are gone for good. Setting up the backup takes a minute and is the single most useful thing you can do today.
On first launch you choose a display name and set up unlocking. That is the whole setup: no registration, no phone number, no email. In the background your device creates your key pair in its secure hardware.
Since there are no phone numbers, you connect directly: show your QR code and have it scanned, share an invitation link, hold two devices together over NFC, or type an invitation code by hand. Every connection carries a safety number — compare it once in person or on a call to be certain nobody is in the middle.
Under Profile → Devices you pair a device directly by QR code, device to device, without going through a server. “Migration” moves history, media and memberships to the new device and removes the old one from the chats; “Second device” keeps both active. The new device gets its own identity — keys are never simply copied. Linking devices is part of SaQura Pro, with up to five linked devices.
In a chat, tap “+” → Location → Share live location and choose how long it should run. It keeps going in the background, survives an app restart, and ends when the time is up or as soon as you stop it. Recipients see a map and can open navigation with one tap. Continuous live location is part of SaQura Pro; sending your position once is included for everyone.
Voice and video calls between two people are end-to-end encrypted like everything else. Voice calls are included; video calls are part of SaQura Pro.
Files up to 25 MB are included. With SaQura Pro a single file can be up to 2 GB; large files transfer in chunks in the background with a visible progress indicator, and a failed transfer is resent with one tap. You can also choose the photo quality, from data saver to original.
Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode protect access to the app — they do not sign you out, and your identity and chats stay where they are. You can toggle the app lock under Profile → Data & storage.
Organizations can operate SaQura on their own infrastructure. The server never sees plaintext either way; self-hosting simply puts the relay in your own hands, together with policies and seat management. Write to us and we will walk you through it.
SaQura Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription. It comes as SaQura Pro (Monthly), which renews every month, and SaQura Pro (Yearly), which renews every year. It renews automatically until you cancel it.
The price is the one shown in the store for your region. You see it in the app before you confirm the purchase.
Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us — you do not need to contact us to cancel:
Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for; Pro stays active until then. Switch auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not by us. For an App Store purchase, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com; for Google Play, use the order history in the Play Store.
Because everything is end-to-end encrypted, we cannot read your messages, restore them or hand them over — not even if you ask us to yourself. There is no copy on our side, and the key never leaves your devices. That is the product doing exactly what it promises, and it is why the backup above matters so much.
For a technical problem the app can produce a diagnostic report under Profile → Data & storage → Diagnostics & error log. You decide whether to send it. It contains no message content and reaches us encrypted.
